There are two ways out, and they are not the same.

Which one applies to you depends on a single fact: whether a Magistrate's Court order was granted re-arranging your payments. That is why the check asks about it early, and why uploading the order speeds everything up.

1

A clearance certificate

Where the debts under the re-arrangement have been satisfied, section 71 of the National Credit Act entitles you to a clearance certificate from your debt counsellor, and the bureaus must then remove the debt review listing from your record.

When it fits: your short term accounts are paid up, and any home loan is up to date. This is the cleanest route, and it needs no court.
2

An application to court

Where a court order is in place and the debts are not yet settled, the order has to be set aside or the debt review withdrawn before the flag can come off. That is court work, and it is run through the independent affiliate attorneys we work with.

When it fits: you were placed under review in error or misled, your circumstances have changed, or the re-arrangement is no longer workable.
Anyone who tells you the flag can simply be deleted is not being straight with you. A debt review listing is removed by satisfying the Act, not by asking nicely. We will tell you which route you are on, what it involves, and what it costs, before anything starts.

What the free check actually does

We check your actual status

With the credit bureaus and against the National Credit Regulator's register, so we are working from the record rather than from memory.

A consultant reads your order

If you upload your court order, judgment or clearance certificate, a consultant reads it. That single document usually decides the route.

You get the honest answer

The route that fits, what it involves and what it costs. Or, just as honestly, that staying in debt review is the better move for you right now.

Sometimes the honest answer is stay.

Debt review exists to protect you. The moment it ends, your original instalments come back, and so does everything your creditors were prevented from doing. We will say so if that is your position.

Protection ends the day you leave

While the re-arrangement stands, creditors cannot enforce against you on the restructured agreements. Once it is lifted, they can, and a home loan or a vehicle agreement is the first thing at risk.

The original instalments come back in full

Not the reduced figure you pay now. If those numbers are still out of reach, leaving simply moves you from a plan you dislike into arrears you cannot fix.

Being nearly finished changes everything

If your short term accounts are paid up and only a bond is left, you may already qualify for a clearance certificate without going near a court. Most people in that position have no idea.

An error at the start is a different case

If you were placed under review without understanding it, or the paperwork was never done properly, that is a specific argument with a specific route, and it is worth raising.

Three steps. No cost to find out.

  1. Answer the questions

A few minutes, and as honest as you can be. The right route depends entirely on your real position.

  2. We check and read

We confirm your status with the bureaus and the Regulator, and a consultant reads whatever you have uploaded.

  3. You get a straight answer

The route that fits, what it involves, and what it costs. You decide from there, with nothing owed for the check.
